Amazing Adventures 1961 The first incarnation of Amazing Adventures premiered June 1961, and featured mainly fantasy/science-fiction/monster stories, virtually all drawn by artists Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko and written by Stan Lee or Larry Lieber. Notably, its first issue introduced the supernatural monster-hunter Doctor Droom, Marvel's first Silver Age superhero; Droom had powers such as telepathy and hypnotic suggestion. Doctor Droom vanished into obscurity before resurfacing in the 1970's as Doctor Druid (having been renamed to avoid confusion with the popular villain Doctor Doom).

The series was retitled Amazing Adult Fantasy with its seventh issue, ostensibly to offer more 'adult' fantasy stories rather than the regular monster tales that Lee and his collaborators had been cranking out for this and other titles.
