Sabrina the Teen-Age Witch Sabrina the Teen-Age Witch was a comic title from Archie Publications starring the platinum-blonde sorceress. It ran for 77 issues, between April 1971 and January 1983. The first 17 issues were 52-page giants. The character had first appeared in Archie's Mad House #22 (Oct. 1962), created by George Gladir and Dan DeCarlo. Sabrina had also previously made several appearances in such titles as Archie's TV Laugh-Out and Archie Giant Series in various backup stories.

Sabrina, who is really a half-witch (mother a mortal, father a warlock) lives with her aunts Hilda and Zelda (both witches), in the town of Greendale, which is located somewhere near Riverdale, the home of the Archie gang. Also living with the three women as the family pet is Salem Saberhagen, a warlock who has been turned into a cat so that he can be kept out of mischief (i.e., trying to take over the world). Most of Sabrina's adventures consist of Sabrina either trying to use her powers in secret to help others (witches generally are not allowed to tell mortals about their abilities), learning more about her powers (either through her aunts or from trips to the Other Realm, an alternate dimension that is the home of various magical creatures, including witches), or trying to deal with the day-to-day trials of being a teenager. Sabrina also has a mortal boyfriend named Harvey Kinkle, who, like nearly all the other mortals in Sabrina's world, is unaware his girlfriend.

A Sabrina made-for-TV film was aired in 1996, with the response being positive enough that the character was given her own TV series starring Melissa Joan Hart. The TV series proved to be extremely successful, last for a full 7 seasons and providing plenty of spinoffs including another TV movie, a CD, and plenty of merchandise. Naturally, the show introduced the character to millions of young people who might have never heard of her otherwise, and who may never have picked up an Archie comic.
